Words are infinitely powerful,
They can cause so much pain,
For a child who deserves nothing but love,
What do cruel words serve to gain?

It is hard to believe that you matter,
When a history of emotional abuse is all you know,
An angry tide of sorrow,
Washes away all hope as you grow.

Cutting yourself becomes a sought after release,
Scars emerge in the places where others can’t see,
Yet, you reject within yourself the truth that you matter,
The beauty of you that is the essential key.

Never forget that you matter,
To many people that you don’t even know,
Never forget that you are important in so many ways,
Even to the people who don’t always tell you so.

Never forget that you matter,
I know anger has become your expected meal,
And tears have been the water to your soul,
Tears wash over you, through your ordeal.

Never forget that you matter,
Even when your scars are what you see,
You matter and you are enough,
You are the person who you should be.

Never forget that you matter,
Invite compassion and hope to echo within your mind,
And if you can feel even the smallest solace in this poem,
May comfort be yours to find.
